Algae Systems is a new company dedicated to commercializing a novel method for growing microalgae offshore as a biofuel feedstock. This approach, developed by a diverse team of scientists and engineers at the NASA Ames Research Center, is called the Algae OMEGA System.
OMEGA is a system for algal cultivation which solves many of the problems that have so far prevented algae from realizing its extraordinary potential as a method for growing energy while sequestering carbon.
We are, in addition, integrating breakthrough methods for converting the algal biomass directly into fuel that can be used in existing diesel and jet engines without mixing or modification.
What makes Algae Systems unique
- We turn sunlight, carbon dioxide, and sewage into carbon negative fuel.
- We don’t bio-engineer, stress, or alter our algae.
- We grow algae in floating off-shore enclosures, using no agricultural land.
- We feed our algae tertiary sewage for a growing medium and nutrition source, so our system doesn’t compete for water resources.
- We produce diesel and jet-fuel that is chemically equivalent to fossil-based products.
- Our patented system removes water from algae using natural processes, sparing us prohibitive energy requirements.
- We add value to existing industrial assets by turning waste streams into marketable products.
- We give developing economies tools to draw-down carbon and grow cheap, local sources of clean fuel to power the engines they already have.
